Quebec Trust

Europeans and practitioners may wish to consider the use of Quebec Trusts in their overall international tax planning. Quebec Trusts are quite versatile and can be used for asset protection, ownership of real estate, holding assets, income splitting, etc.


  • Trust deed is not part of any public registry in Quebec or Canada.
  • Can be constituted as a Discretionary Trust
  • Beneficiaries can be non-residents
  • Subject to certain conditions, beneficiaries can be added or revoked by settlor or trustee
  • Recognized by the Canada-France tax treaty
  • French taxpayers are not required to pay ISF taxation on assets held by a Quebec Trust
